[comp.windows.x] good programmer's guide to X

bauman@shell.com (12/12/89)

I was wondering if anyone can recommend a good book for learning to
program in X. Possible something along the lines of the Sunview
Programmer's Guide that comes with the complete SunOS documentation?
(No flames here - it worked for me. I never even programmed in C
before and had written my first sunview graphic front-end in a week.)

What I'm really looking for is something with plenty of examples
and snapshots of the screen ("oh, *this* is what the program does!")
that will help me get familiar with X code. I've looked at the
X11 programmer's manual that comes with the MIT X and the Motif
Programmer's guide and found them to be a bit of a disappointment.

Thanks in advance and apologies if this topic has already been beaten
to death.
