[comp.windows.x] IETF Activities

craig@NNSC.NSF.NET (Craig Partridge) (12/12/89)

Hi folks:

This note is being sent around to let you know that the Internet
Engineering Task Force plans to start work within the next week on
developing Internet standards for network graphics and distributed file
systems. People interested in participating in or monitoring these
activities should join the IETF mailing list (ietf-request@isi.edu).

I should hasten to emphasize that we currently *expect* that this
process will be a matter of reviewing the various current candidate
protocols and recommending which ones are suitable for Internet-wide
use. (Of course if none of the protocols are deemed suitable, then
development work may be required.)

Craig Partridge
IETF Area Director, Host-Based and User Services

PS: For those of you not familiar with the IETF: The IETF is charged with
near-term engineering of the Internet. This activity includes advising
the Internet Activities Board of protocols that might be suitable for
standardization in the TCP-IP protocol suite.
