[net.news.group] A new newsgroup

pleasant@topaz.RUTGERS.EDU (Mel Pleasant) (08/27/85)

A new newsgroup, net.micro.amiga, has been created as a forum for
exchanging ideas, passing along tricks and programming tips, and for
general disccusion of the new amiga system and its add-on products.
An ARPAnet counterpart is being created at the same time. Both groups
will be linked via the Rutgers ARPAnet/UUCP gateway.

For those of you who keep track of such things, there was not much in
the way of public discussion for this new newsgroup. The person who
made the initial plea for votes, requested that all votes be mailed to
him personally. He was unaware of the general policies that we follow
for creating new newsgroups. In particular, he was unaware that
voting and discussion should be done in a public forum (e.g.
net.news.group). However, all responses were made available to me. I
tallied the vote so that I could present the totals here. Currently,
there are 51 votes for net.micro.amiga with only 3 of these expressing
any reservation whatsoever. There are 72 votes on the ARPAnet side
with 7 of these being established as local redistribution points.
These figures do not include any discussion that may have occured in a
public forum nonetheless. After discussing these figures with Gene,
it was decided that we had enough votes to go ahead with the creation
of this new newsgroup.
