If this ``Sphinx'' is the same as that which runs on Data General
MV-series computers, the reason they can't use UUCP is that they
don't have any access to the tty modes.  You can't even change your
backspace and line kill characters, much less go into raw noecho....

	The lack of even such a simple  utility as a UNIX-to-UNIX
	inter-machine communications program has forced Sphinx to
	develop its own for in-house use, and that product is now 
	to be sold externally too.
