Hello, I have a few questions/problems. I am about to start a new X project, and I'd like to get some net-opinions before I start. 1) One of the most important issues involving my project is that ALL the final pieces can be obtained for "free". X11R3, sufficiently, passes this test. Will R4 (In other words, will R4 be available, in toto, via anonymous ftp)? 2) It seems the R4 release is upon us, would I be wasting my time writing my program for R3? How easy will it be to update R3 code to R4 code? 2) I'm assuming that there will be an R4 version of the Intrinsics, what toolkits will also be available with the distribution? 3) From reading the net, Motif seems to be the "toolkit of choice" these days, will it come with R4, or must we (the poor unaffiliated users) still pay a liscensing fee (I realize this isn't up to the X folks)? Much thanks in advance, Frank. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Frank Goodman arpa: spanki@CED.Berkeley.EDU University of California, Berkeley or: spanki%CED@jade.Berkeley.EDU College of Environmental Design uucp: ...hplabs!ucbvax!ced!spanki S.I.S. Will R4 (In other words, will R4 be available, in toto, via anonymous ftp)? Of course. would I be wasting my time writing my program for R3? The question is too general, but No would be a good general answer. How easy will it be to update R3 code to R4 code? Again too general, but in general it should be very easy. For X Consortium standards, upward compatibility is a general requirement. I'm assuming that there will be an R4 version of the Intrinsics, Yes. what toolkits will also be available with the distribution? If you mean Xt-based toolkits: Athena Widget Set, Xcu, Xw, SUIT. will [Motif] come with R4 No.
