Yes, I agree that "naive users don't know how to unsubscribe" is a weak reason to want to get rid of net.general. Even with the various kinds of reorganization plans, it still seems like it will be necessary to provide a "catch all" category for people who can't decide where to post their messages. The arguments for getting rid of net.general seem to fall into two categories (1) naive users get annoyed by the amount of cruft and don't know how to turn it off and (2) sophisiticated users are annoyed by the cruft, have unsubscribed but are afraid they are missing something. My reading of the statistics Mark posted are that a significant minority wants to keep net.general and that they have presented some good reasons why it is needed. Hence, I'd say that it should be kept if we don't choose to totally reorganize everything. It is worth chaos if we are going to get something definitely better. Chaos seems useless if we just want to clean things up a little. --Rick
