[comp.windows.x] Using Xview Client with DS3100 Server?

parker@epiwrl.EPI.COM (Alan Parker) (01/06/90)

Has anyone run an Xview client (either one of the Sun provided programs,
such as cmdtool, or your own program) on a Sun CPU using a DEC DS3100 as
a server? This is what happens when we try to do it:

X Error: BadValue, integer parameter out of range for operation
  Request Major code 118 ()
  Request Minor code
  ResourceID 0x68
  Error Serial #84
  Current Serial #84

Can anyone give me a clue what this means?

By the way, it works (though not perfectly) with a MAC II running A/UX.

Also, does anybody have any information on ports of the XView toolkit to
the DS3100?

Thanks, Alan Parker, Entropic Speech, Inc. uunet!epiwrl!parker

I built the entire Sun contribution (XView and olwm) on my DS3100 before the
R4 was cut; I had a few problems, but I think the major problems have been
fixed and it should build with little difficulty.

I've also run all of the XView clients against the R4 server on the DS3100
and they work fine; except that XView uses a private protocol to manage the
CLIPBOARD selection and so the R4 xclipboard client confuses things quite a
bit.

Use the bits from R4 though, the earlier versions of XView could only be
built with a nearly-ansi compiler (the DS3100 compiler is still stone age in
some respects).
