[comp.windows.x] DECwindows applications with R4

rusty@garnet.berkeley.edu (01/09/90)

Didn't someone recently say that DECwindows applications will run
against the R4 server? I tried to run dxcalendar and it complains
that it can't find the font

	-*-menu-medium-r-*--*-120-75-75-p-*-iso8859-1

If I do "xlsfonts -display :0 | grep -i menu" on the DECstation
(running Ultrix Worksystem V2.1 (Rev. 14)) it says

	-bigelow & holmes-menu-medium-r-normal--10-100-75-75-p-56-iso8859-1
	-bigelow & holmes-menu-medium-r-normal--12-120-75-75-p-70-iso8859-1

The same thing on the R4 machine gives nothing (besides, all the
Bigelow & Holmes fonts on R4 are called b&h).

Is there a reasonable substitution for R4?

Almost any substitution will do, just create your own fonts.alias file.
For example, here's what I threw together:

-A-Terminal-A-A-A--10-180-A-A-A-A-A-A fixed
-A-Terminal-A-A-A-A-A-140-A-A-A-A-A-A fixed
-A-Terminal-Medium-R-Normal--10-140-A-A-C-A-ISO8859-1 fixed
-A-Menu-Medium-R-Normal--10-120-75-75-P-A-ISO8859-1 fixed
-A-Terminal-Medium-R-Narrow--A-140-A-A-C-A-ISO8859-1 fixed
-A-Terminal-Medium-R-Narrow--A-140-A-A-C-A-ISO8859-1 fixed
