Lots of people have reported problems with the runtime loader not being able to find the shared libXmu under SunOS 4.0.x -- indeed, I recently ran into this problem on the Sun-386i. I set LD_LIBRARY_PATH to point to my library installation directory for X11R4, and all of the shared libraries *except* libXmu were found. Curiously enough, installing libXmu in /usr/local/lib *did* allow the loader to find it. I haven't had time to dig into this and figure out what's going on, but I did notice two rather odd messages while making the shared libXmu. The loader said this when building the shared archive: ld: assert pure-text failed at d2a in CmapAlloc.o ld: assert pure-text failed at ecd in CmapAlloc.o I don't actually know what it means, or why it would make the runtime loader unable to find this library *except* when it was in one of the standard places, but this *was* the only library build to produce such messages, so there's probably a connection... -- Matt Landau Waiting for a flash of enlightenment mlandau@bbn.com in all this blood and thunder
