Now that I have X11R4 under control, I was wondering about the availablity
of PEX:
- Is it available now for public use? How about to X Consortium
members? When will there be a general release?
- What are some useful references to learn more about PEX?
- How compatible will PEX be with X11. I've heard nasty rumors that
the PEX committie has wondered from the yellow brick road.
Please Email your responses. Thanks muchly in advance.

Is it available now for public use?
Not the Sample Implementation. You can contact various vendors to
find out what their product plans are.
How about to X Consortium members?
PEX sponsors have received several preliminary releases. Consortium
members will see releases later this year.
When will there be a general release?
1990ish, if things go according to plan.
What are some useful references to learn more about PEX?
Read the files in doc/extension/PEX (PostScript files in
hardcopy/extensions/PEX) in R4. Obtain any books/articles
on PHIGS you can find; The programming interface to PEX
will be PHIGS/PHIGS+.
How compatible will PEX be with X11.
PEX makes no incompatible changes to X11, that I know of. PEX is a draft
standard of the MIT X Consortium. It is awaiting proof of concept (expected
to be fulfilled by the Sample Implementation).
