In answer to my query "how can I abort from `reply' in readnews", I received
these responses ...

... which is what I thought I had done. Upon reflection, and after some
experiments (I replied repeatedly to my own posting), I have verified that Dave
and Russ are correct - AS LONG AS YOU END THE EDIT SESSION "NORMALLY". That is,
delete the "To:" line (probably the first line), then quit the editor as though
you intended on sending the text. What I had done was to try to abort the
editor (in vi by typing ":q!") which had caused the original header block
supplied by readnews (with an intact "To:" line but no message body) to be sent.

I also received ...

> **** ****

[so far, there has been no reply ... sounds like the "halting problem" to me :-]
