[comp.windows.x] changing default /usr/lib/X11 path under X11R4

pnakada@oracle.com (Paul Nakada) (01/12/90)

Is there any way to have the X server look in a directory besides
/usr/bin/X11 for its files? (rgb.txt, etc)

I have changed my path to search for the correct executables and
changed my LD_LIBRARY_PATH to load the correct shared libraries.

The only other directory is /usr/lib/X11. I'm a little confused as to the
purpose of the three environment variables XUSERFILESEARCHPATH,
XAPPLRESDIR, and XFILESEARCHPATH. I have tried combinations of
these, but none has allowed the server to find rgb.txt.

I'm doing this as an experiment to see if X can be run without using
any of the /usr directory, even when compiled to run there.

can anyone help me out? thanks
