I have created a directory of compressed BDF format font files for over 400 TeX CM fonts at 85dpi. These BDF files can be converted to X11 server fonts using 'uncomprss' & 'bdftosnf'. They are intended for use by the ``xtex'' previewer that was distributed with X11R4. The fonts are at magnifications of 1000 and 1440; e.g., cmr10 at 10pt appears as cmr10.85.bdf.Z and cmr10.122.bdf.Z. The 1000 & 1440 magnifications at 85dpi are the defaults used by xtex for ``normal'' and ``detail'' view. These fonts take up 2.5Mb in compressed form; on my DECstation-3100, they consume about 1Mb when converted to compressed SNF fonts. These are available via anonymous FTP from host foobar.colorado.edu (128.138.243.105), in directory pub/Bdf. I intend to leave them there for a long time; thus, a simple model of use might be to pick all ``*.85.bdf.Z'' and convert them to your server format. When xtex complains about not finding a font, you can just go pick it up. Or, just transfer the whole thing. Whatever. If you're using shrunken 300dpi fonts, and never switched over, you may want to pick these up - they look much nicer. I can not mail these, and I'm really very bad about making tapes, so please, try to get them through 3rd parties if you can't FTP them.
