I'm sure that most people will agree that the new network maps are a good thing and a hearty pat-on-the-back to the authors. But... I believe that the distribution should be such so that new releases of both the new and old formats of the map and the necessary updates should be done with as little intervention as possible by site administrators. I've tried using the uuhosts program posted by John Quarterman (see: 2976@ut-sally.UUCP) but many of the maps that have arrived so far have not been in a format which uuhosts is capable of recognising. Some have subject lines without the "UUCPmap" prefix one had expected a user to edit the map before submission to uuhosts. Surely the first step in ensuring a fixed format would be to place the maps into a moderated group. There is also the question of software for map munging but I presume that this is already being worked on.
