[comp.windows.x] Server glitches with XMan/Xcfbpmax?

hastings@hemlock.Berkeley.EDU (Mark Hastings) (01/11/90)

I've found a problem with xman running on a Ultrix 3.1 PMAX with the
Xcfbpmax server, and I haven't seen any mention of it yet.

When I look at a long manual page (such as the one for twm) and start
scrolling up and down quickly by clicking in the scrollbar, I get glitches
(read: black horizontal lines and bold-text overlayed on other text).
It seems to depend on the density of the text on the page (twm.n seems
to demonstrate the problem repeatedly).

I just tried it on a color sun 3/60 (os 4.0.3) and it seems to occur there
too.

I've seen this problem too. It even happens on short manual pages if
you try hard (zmailnotify is what I just tried it on). I guess it
screws up on all the page headers if you don't move far enough
backward to catch some boldface code. To duplicate, scroll just past
one of the

  PROGRAMNAME(1) USER COMMANDS PROGRAMNAME(1)

headers and inch (millimeter?) backward by rightbuttonclicking near
the top of the scrollbar. It will display the text normal and then
discover "oops I need to be bold" and hose itself. I bet someone has
already fixed it. They just need to brag about it :)

Anyone fixed xpostit yet? Our old R3 (used because R4 version won't
compile) can't figure out where new postits go and sticks them all in
the zero corner.
