Most folks archive net.sources because it generally has things that can be modified for what every system ... few archive net.micro.* because of ... Please lets post sources if you want to share something ... maybe more than a small minority will be able to use the result or your hard labor. John Bass /* ---------- */ The problem with posting sources, etc. to net.micro.* is that most of those newsgroups are gatewayed to the arpanet, where they have a different (and much better, I might add) method of distributing things. The reason this creates a problem is that on the ARPANet, those things wind up in peoples mailboxes (meaning more than one copy per system, etc). How would you like it if the binaries wound up in your mailbox? As for your second point, I archive net.micro.*, because we use micros, and will probably add more (like a couple Masscomp box) in the future. Turns out that the best net source of information on such creatures is net.micro.68k and the like. This has been suggested before, and it seemed like a good idea at the time: let's create a separate subgroup for micro sources/objects/etc, called (probably) net.micro.sources. That way, you can ignore it along with the rest of the micro groups, if you so desire, and you won't be stepping on the toes of the people who want that info, or the ARPANauts who are on info-micro. <mike

Mike -- and other ARPA readers of net.micro.* --- I was unware that such got dumped into peoples mailboxes .... what a LOT of mail traffic net news must generate! Given that ... it seems quite reasonable to put them into net.binaries or net.micro.binaries or net.micro.pc.binaries .... Lets still try to keep all generic source in net.sources. Still learning ... thanks to the info ... John Bass
