If you're interested in discussing alternatives for allocating colors and color maps, this week would be a good time to request to be added to the ximage mailing list. At the X Conference's "Colors, Colormaps, [etc]" BOF there was an apparent concensus that we should discuss opportunities for extending or improving color and colormap allocation. This is of modestly earth-shaking importance for displaying color images. We agreed at the BOF to discuss this through the ximage mailing list. I propose to begin offering my own thoughts next week. This is advance notice for anyone who'd like to tune in on the start of this discussion and isn't on the ximage list. To have the X folks add you to the list, send a message to ximage-request@expo.lcs.mit.edu. The first thoughts I expect to offer will be about a notion of using virtual color maps for clients, and defining server facilities for virtual-to-physical color mapping. Hopefully this and other ideas could be tested as server extensions. ---------------- Paul Raveling Raveling@isi.edu
