In article <1522@mit-amt.MEDIA.MIT.EDU> you write: >Does anyone keep a list of commercially available X11-applications >running on SUNs? Unfortunately, X11 needs these kinds of >applications to compete favorably with MS-windows, Macintosh etc. > >I don't ask for desktop publishing recommendations since I already use >FrameMaker. If anyone care about my opinion: it is a superb product! Well, I'm not so thrilled with FrameMaker (I am a diehard Interleaf fan) but that's what my present employer is using, so ... Tell me: are you using FrameMaker1.3X? I am, with X11/XNeWS and Motif, and find that FrameMaker1.3X is an ill-behaved client. 1. Unless I set Mwm*background and Mwm*foreground to "black" and "white", respectively, *any* configuring of Mwm/client resources that I do causes my FrameMaker interactive boxes (file select, tools, etc) to appear in reverse-video. 2. If I pop-up the Window Menu on the FrameMaker1.3X client and choose CLOSE, FrameMaker1.3X "dies", but the FMconsole part stays there, a frame + background, without any "insides". 3. Have you tried getting front/back quotes with FrameMaker1.3X? With FrameMaker1.3 you press Meta-leftquote/Meta-rightquote, respectively. Try that with FrameMaker1.3X and you get just single left/right quotes. I know, I know; go tell this to Frame!! Well, I did. I spoke to their Tech Support twice (they're 2 miles away from me, both companies being in San Jose, CA), and they couldn't even *begin* to help me. I requested a list of FrameMaker1.3X's user-configurable X-resources, and they said, "Huh?" I feel like the beginning of that late '50s/early '60s TV show, "Naked City" -- there are a million stories, this is one of them. Sigh. +------------------------+--------------------------------------------------+ | _J_o_n_a_t_h_a_n_ _B_._ _H_o_r_e_n_ _ _ _ _ | | . | Lilmod Al Manat Laasot | | _C_a_d_e_n_c_e_ _D_e_s_i_g_n_ _S_y_s_t_e_m_s | |__ (/\ \ / |__ Lilmod Al Manat Lelamed | | | _/ / _\ _\/ _/ Lilmod Al Manat Lichtov | | _h_o_r_e_n_@_c_a_d_e_n_c_e_._c_o_m | -: - | +------------------------+--------------------------------------------------+
