Someone recently posted a request for information concerning X on an IBM PC. We have PS2 Model 70 and 80's. They are 386 proceccor based. X can be run on these in two ways. 1) IBM has a product called X Windows For DOS. Basically, a few drivers are loaded, and you execute "xondos". A telnet session is started to a machine on the ethernet that runs software called "pci..."; typically IBM machines, in our case IBM RT's running AIX. An aixterm is started and you log out and the PC becomes an X terminal (no access to the local disk though). ******* Unfortunately, our systems will hang after a non-deterministic amount of time?? I have posted this problem several times but have not received any help with a solution. 2) Get AIX for the PS/2. And make sure you have a 90mb hard drive or bigger (we have 60mb and they are maxed out with just the system software). An X windows package comes with this (actually, it came from the consortium). ***** Unfortunately, we understood that our configuration of 60mb hd and 2mb memory was a minimum requirement for running AIX and X. It is, if you don't mind waiting 5 minutes for each redraw et.al. --paging constantly. I recommend at least 4-6 mb of RAM for option 2 with a 90mb hd. Option 1 is fast enough but it doesn't work??? /*------------Thanks in advance...---------------------------------------+ | Peter C.
