We are running the X11R3 on a sun 4/150 and using 2 NCD16 as the display devices. Whenever one xdm is invoked, there are always four xdms running in the backgroud. Anyone out there knows why? Thanks for any help! jeanne@hfh.edu

> We are running the X11R3 ... using 2 NCD16s ... there are always four xdms > running in the background. The R3 version of xdm created 2 processes per display for various arcane reasons. The R4 version was fixed to only use 1 process per display. The R4 version also manages the remote displays much better, detecting when they're turned off by "pinging" occasionally and doing a host of other useful tasks. Keith Packard MIT X Consorium
