Hi folks, I'm trying to run GNU Emacs (18.??) on my Sun 3 (3.4) under X11R3. I can only get it to work if I "setenv DISPLAY unix:0.0". However, if I try to setenv DISPLAY to anything else, e.g. <machine-name>:0.0, I get a timeout message from emacs: unable to connect to server, check DISPLAY environment variable. Has anyone seen this before? Does it sound like a site specific configuration problem, an emacs problem, or an X problem? I've tried using the -d option when invoking emacs, but this doesn't seem to work. Has anyone had any success using this option? I've tried both the following forms: gnuemacs -d apptek2:0.0 ("apptek2" is my machine name) gnuemacs -dapptek2:0.0 This is a pain, because not being able to set DISPLAY the "right" way prohibits me from running clients on other machines and using my display. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance, -Vartan vartan@itstd.sri.com
