[comp.windows.x] XDM Authorization Problem

dinah@NICOLLE.BCM.TMC.EDU (Dinah Anderson) (02/17/90)

I am trying to turn xdm authorization on and have a couple of questions.
I am running X11R4 on a Sun 4/150 running 4.0.3 of the SunOS.

Running xdm with the -debug 2 option indicates that the
/usr/lib/X11/xdm/Xresources file is not being read. There are no error
messages, but the values for some of the resources listed in the debug output
do not correspond to those listed in the Xresources file. I have checked that
the xdm-config file is being read and does point to the right Xresource file
(/usr/lib/X11/xdm/Xresources). So I have 2 questions:

1) If Xresources the right place to define the authorization resources
   (DisplayManager*authorize, et.al.) ?
2) How do I go about trouble shooting the problem with the Xresources file
not being read? I eve nstripped it down to 1 line that should work
   but no luck.

I am using NCD X terminals as well.

Thanks.

    1) If Xresources the right place to define the authorization resources
       (DisplayManager*authorize, et.al.) ?

No, they should go in the xdm-config file.

I've experienced the same problem, and I have the resources in the xdm-config
file.

The problem that Dinah and I have experienced is one with resources incorrectly
loaded when the server is foreign. I'm not sure whether this problem is fixed
with fix-2, but I spend 2 days last week working on this one, and if the patch
doesn't correct it, then I have a fix that does. I sent some mail off to xbugs,

but I got no response, so I guess either you guys are swamped, or I sent it to
the wrong place. Anyway, there is at least 1 other bug in xdm, the password
problem that I thought was fixed some time ago.
