I have a question regarding the xdm-errors file ( in X11/etc/xdm ). From what I understand, this file should be written to when errors occur which are not sent to the display. We are finding that this file is being written to quite frequently (on the order of 250 bytes a minute). It is being filled with messages such as the following: Hung in XOpenDisplay (gem:0), aborting Server open failed for gem:0, giving up Hung in XOpenDisplay (catseye:0), aborting Hung in XOpenDisplay (emerald:0), aborting etc. where gem, catseye, and emerald are nodes which may or may not be currently alive (i.e. up and running). Some background info: we are running X11V3 on a MIPS RC2030. The nodes are a combination of MACs and X-terminals. We are using xdm. My question is this: Since this file is being constantly written to will this cause us trouble eventually? We have been suffering from system crashes at an average of one per week. I'm curious to know if the xdm-errors file can be contributing to this. My instincts tell me that the behavior of xdm with this file is not healthy.
