[comp.windows.x] Sun 3/60, SunView on mono, X11R4 on color

jhall@amc-gw.amc.com (John Hall) (02/22/90)

I have a Sun 3/60 with the cgfour frame buffer running SunOS 4.0.1
(Soon to be 4.0.3), and the vanilla X11R4 Sun server.

I need to use FrameMaker frequently, but, unfortunately, Frame V2.0 is not
yet available for X (at least here), and Frame 1.3d for X (which we have)
does'nt run very well (menus lock up, colors interpreted strangely,
requesters hanging up, etc) and V1.3 is less desirable than V2.0 since the
latter is easier, faster, and generally prettier to use.

Therefore, I would like to run Sunview on my monochrome screen, and X on
the color screen, but I have'nt been able to get it to work. I have tried
running Sunview on one or both screens, then running X under the Sunview,
but X always claims both screens. I have RTFM and RTFMP including the Xsun
manpage which BRIEFLY mentions a way of doing this, but I can't make it
work. I know about the -mono switch, but that would seem to do the opposite
of what I want (which is: color X, mono Sunview).

Any ideas. Please email me and I'll summarize to the net.

							Thanks,
