[comp.windows.x] Are asynchronous events standard X?

bill@fedeva.UUCP (Bill Daniels) (02/22/90)

Is the ability to specify an asynchronous event (I think that is what it
is called but I don't have my manuals at home) such as a file read/write or
socket data becoming available a standard part of X11? The UWS system from
DEC provides this feature (I sure wish that I had my mans. with me in order
to be able to provide specifics) but I am leary of using it if it isn't
standard. If it is not standard, how does one go about watching a socket in
a client after going away to Xnextevent? I am a rank beginner to X so don't
spare the detail please.
