[comp.windows.x] More help with TWM please!!

herndon@sctc.com (William R. Herndon) (03/01/90)

Thanks to everyone who sent me suggestions to correct the problems that
I am having with TWM. However the problem still persists.

After carefully reading the manual entry on TWM, I did find a mechanism
by which on could specify the default position of icons when no explicit
   geometry is specified.

The resources are referred to by the prefix "IconManager" and define
a box on the screen which contains the icons. This box is either
visible or invisible and can be resized and positioned using the
"IconManagerGeometry" resource. However, my version of TWM seems not to
recognize any of the IconManager resources, and in fact, TWM will abort
very messily if I include them in my .twmrc file. I consistantly recieve
error messages such as the following:

.twmrc: line 5 Bad Character 'I'
      .twmrc: line 5 Syntax Error
      TWM aborting...

( This is approximately what is printed. )

Line 5 of my .twmrc will always contain a resource string containing
the IconManager prefix and will look something like this:

       IconManagerGeometry "100x800+1170+214"

Commenting out this line will make everything run fine again.

I also tried to use the IconRegion resource ( a suggestion, sent to me
by E-Mail ). Although I could not find IconRegion in my version of the
man page, I tried it and had the exact problem as with the IconManager
   resources.

Can anyone solve my problem? Would a newer version of TWM help? I am
   using version 4.0.

Any and all help is appreciated.
