SYNOPSIS: using shaped extension can close server down.
DESCRIPTION:
The attribution of this to the shaped extension is mostly wild
speculation on my part. In general running clients seems to be fine
but if I bring up one that tries to oval windows, server shutdown is
imminent. When it is clearly on its way out then the whole operation
will freeze up for around thirty seconds or so (Sun 3/60 -- maybe a
280 would crash faster) then exit. Sometimes a diagnostic is printed
-- "xinit: lost connection to server", I think. The invoking shell(s)
(mine is bash) then just sucks down a stream of eofs until logout
finally occurs.
REPEAT BY:
Run oclock. Run xeyes.
Sometimes they will come up fine, then you have to do something else
to them to have an effect. Example: run oclock in the foreground from
a shell. INTR (C-c) it. Boom. Example 2: run xeyes. Try to move
it. Boom.
SAMPLE FIX: I have absolutely no clue.

Further experimenting with this seems to point specifically to
elliptical windows and not the whole shaped extension on this platform.
That's a little bit better, at least as far as I'm concerned. It
means this really groovy thing I did with XBiff won't crash my Sun3.
