[comp.windows.x] Broken pipes using Motif/mwm/UIL

jack@fsg.UUCP (Jack Erickson) (03/09/90)

I've been having a problem with intermittent broken pipes in an
application I'm writing. The environment is Sun 3 running SUNOS 4.0.3
X11R3, Motif toolkit and I'm using mwm.

I have a main window with a menu bar which pulls down a menu which in
turn has a push button which creates a dialog shell/bulletin board
widget with several text entry widgets and a couple of push buttons.

As the bulletin board begins to draw SOMETIMES ( maybe 10% of the times I
try this ) I get:

XIO: fatal IO error 32 (Broken pipe) on X server "unix:0.0"
      after 934 requests (721 known processed) with 0 events remaining.
      The connection was probably broken by a server shutdown or KillClient.

I have two other menu buttons which also pop up bulletin boards which are
similar though they do contain fewer text widgets. Popping up either of
these two never has a problem with broken pipe.

BTW, I'm also using UIL. The bulletin board is defined in UIL and created
using MrmFetchWidget and XtManageChild.

Has anyone else ever had this problem? Any help or pointers will be
greatly appreciated.
