I've got a Sparcstation 1, running SunOS 4.0.3c. I just built X11R4, but trying to run it by various means always gives me the error: "ld.so: libXmu.so.4 not found". After the build, there was indeed a libXmu.so.4.0 in /usr/lib. I copied it to the name that ld.so was complaining about, but that didn't help. Is "0" the correct minor version number for 4.0.3c? Should I be using shared code and libraries? The build seemed to go flawlessly, so I don't know what's going on here. I used the site.def and sun.cf files as is off the tape, as they seemed to be correct for my setup. I have a "gx" type console, which uses /dev/cgsix0. Anybody know what's going on? I just got X11R4 up on a 3/150 last week and had the exact same problem. The answer is surprisingly simple: as root, (probably go to /usr/lib) and type "ldconfig". I don't believe this was documented anywhere; the smart guys will certainly correct me when I'm wrong. A friend, hearing of my travails, said he saw it on comp.sources.x, but I don't recall seeing it. Anyway. . . . Brian Capouch Saint Joseph's College brianc@saintjoe.edu
