[comp.windows.x] Hp TextEdit widget

rb@tnoibbc.UUCP (Rene Balkenende) (03/16/90)

I face the following problems using the Xw widgets:

Suppose I create a popup with a TextEdit widget in it. How can I determine the
absolute height and width in pixels of the TextEdit widget given I'd like
to edit e.g. ten characters? I am using the standard font Fixed but on
different terminals the height and width in pixels vary so my lay-out is not
consistent.

I have tried to solve the problem with the Xlib routine XTextWidth, but that
one just returns zero. Can someone send me a fragment of C-source which
determines the height and width of a textstring at run-time.

Further more I'd like to edit just reals in my TextEdit widget.
Can someone suply me with the callback routines which control the input
of a TextEdit widget to make sure the input is just a real number.

Please reply by imale.
