I get a protocol error when I either add a scrollbar to an xterm or try to bring up the xterm with a scrollbar, as in: xterm -sb. I am mostly using X11R3 with servers supplied by hardware vendors. The error message looks like this: X Protocol error detected by server: integer parameter out of range Failed request major op code 2 X_ChangeWindowAttributes Failed request minor op code 0 (if applicable) ResourceID 0x20030 in failed request (if applicable) Serial number of failed request 58 Current serial number in output stream 59 The problem appears to be related most closely to the server. It has occured in the following instances: 1) Sony NEWS server. Client xterm on Sun3, HP, DecStation, VAX Station Ultrix. 2) HP-UX 7.0 released server. Client xterm on HP-UX 6.5. 3) Sun4 X11/NeWS server. Client xterm on Sun3 or Sun4. These cases are the exceptions. The Sony can display an xterm scrollbar if it is run locally. The HP-UX 7.0 server can display an xterm scrollbar that is run locally or from other machines (such as a Sun). The Sun4 can display an xterm scrollbar if I run a server that I build from the MIT release. Is this a known bug in the server? Is there anything that I can do?
