We are trying to install the X windows system on a SPARC station
with out much success. All the files have been compiled, and installed,
but when xinit is executed we get the following messages:
Getting interface configuration: Operation not supported on socket
sunOpenFrameBuffer: Inappropriate ioctl for device
sunOpenFrameBuffer: Inappropriate ioctl for device
sunOpenFrameBuffer: Inappropriate ioctl for device
Fatal server bug!
no screens found
XIO: fatal IO error 32 (Broken pipe) on X server "(null)"
after 0 requests (0 known processed) with 0 events remaining.
The connection was probably broken by a server shutdown or KillClient.
As a second attempt, we tried to do 'xinit -- Xsun' and received a
screen full of help information which was generated by the Xsun server.
(the output you would get for Xsun -help) Then there would be a delay,
followed by the message:
giving up.
xinit: Connection refused (errno 61): unnable to connect to X server
Has anyone else had similar problems? If anyone has been able to get
X up and running on a SPARC, we would greatly appreciate any hints you
might be able to provide.
Thanks
Stephen
