I am looking for a playback facility to allow recording and/or replay of user events within X. Does anyone have pertinent pointers to share? Responses will be collated if there is interest. Thanks! Please reply to: Bruce Seely 805-373-4142 bss@risc.com

I'd be interested in hearing what sort of requirements exist for a record/playback mechanism within X. At the X technical conference I gave a talk about some work my team has done in this area. I'm particularly interested in the problem set that others have that they intend to apply this capability to. In particular I'm curious about answers to the following questions: Do you need to have it running on an unmodified X Window System? If not would you be willing to work with an X server containing an extension? Do you know about the Input Synthesis Extension work done by HP? If so then why do/don't you use it? Does it meet your needs? Would you like to see an application like this available on the net? What types of X transport do you use? (TCP/IP, CHAOS, DECnet, etc.) And, the million dollar question, if you had a tool like this what would you do with it? Thanks for any responses. Please send mail. If I get more than 5 responses I'll summarize to the net. (Well, maybe 4.) :-) Please keep in mind that I'm just asking for some feedback here. I'm not making promises to deliver such a thing, just trying to find out where people stand. Dan Coutu coutu@decvax.dec.com Open Systems Group (ULTRIX) "'...he who will not risk, cannot win.' I am happy to send you my feedback on X playback, but I have no mail path to you. I tried "coutu@mnemax.zk3.dec.com", which was in your mail header. You did not post uunet or internet addresses.
