[net.news] any problems with a distribution which isn't normal?

dave@utcsrgv.UUCP (Dave Sherman) (11/19/84)

Normal distributions are "local", "<organization>", "<city>",
"<state>", "usa", "net", and the like.

Those of us who have Perkin-Elmer machines running UNIX are
in the process of setting up a "pe" set of newsgroups, for
discussion of issues relating to P-E machines. Obviously,
we will have direct uucp connections among ourselves to
get the stuff transferred. (E.g., although lsuc and nrcaero
are several hops away for normal news transmission, articles
posted to pe.all will be exchanged between them.)

Question: will this break anything? Is there any code
in inews, 2.10.2, 2.10.1, rn, etc., which assumes that
distribution lists have to fit within an orthogonal set
of local/org/city/state/country? What problems are we likely
to run into?
