[comp.windows.x] X11.R4 shared memory documentation?

Can someone tell me where I can find documentation (any!) on MIT
shared memory extensions for R4?  I.e. where in the distribution
or via seperate documentation can I find out how to use it?

Has anyone used it?  Any comments on it?

We want to use it on a Sun 3/60 to cut down on the cost of moving
large images between the client and server.
