Jordan Hubbard of PCS (jkh@pcs.com) has asked me to announce the availability of the latest alpha release of AWL. AWL is a C-like language with a byte-code compiler/interpreter and a great inter- face to the X toolkit. He believes and I provisionally agree that entire windowing applications can be developed in this language. (But there's a full native-code callout facility, too). AWL grew out of the never-ending generality of Jordan's XGDB program. I am hoping to see AWL finished and released so that Jordan will go back to work on XGDB. To that end, I put the code on gatekeeper.dec.com for anon ftp as /pub/X11/contrib/awl.tar.Z (also appearing for NON-anonymous UUCP as "decwrl!~/pub/X11/contrib/awl.tar.Z" and for anonymous DECnet FAL (internal sites only) as DECWRL::"/pub/X11/contrib/awl.tar.Z". -r--r--r-- 1 root 331921 Apr 30 01:16 pub/X11/contrib/awl.tar.Z There's also a copy on expo's contrib. And I sent it to the comp.sources.x moderator. Lastly, I sent a copy to my sister, her dog, and her accountant. -- Paul Vixie DEC Western Research Lab <vixie@wrl.dec.com> Palo Alto, California ...!decwrl!vixie
