[comp.windows.x] WANTED: Advice and Opinions on GUI Hedging

vonn@entropy.ms.washington.edu (Vonn Marsch) (05/03/90)

Dear Friends,

I'd like to solicit some opinions (your's!) on how to do this:

I want to create and maintain a few (somewhat large) X applications that will
conform to both OpenLook and Motif GUI's (not neccessarily in the same
executable, but at least in the same easy-to-maintain source directories). As
well as using a broad range of Xt+ (AT&T's Xt-based Open Look widget set) and
Motif widgets, I have an in-house Xt Intrinsic based widget set that would be
used in both versions of the application.

I have an idea of how to accomplish this, but what is the *best* way to it?
Would systems such as UIL, WsXc or Serpent be of any use?
Am I being naive to believe that such a Herculean task is possible?
What gives?

Thanks `advance,
Vonn Marsch

I am chairing a panel that addresses this very issue at two conferences
this month. UNIX Expo in LA and Xhibition in San Jose. I've mentioned
this already, but the announcement for Xhibition came out too late
for some people. It is being offered, altho I don't know the day/time slots.
Mail to xhibit@ics.com for details.
