I've been getting this error for as long as I have been running X. Repeat by: Run X for some period of time, anywhere from 1 day to a week, creating and destroying windows as needed. Eventually, I get to a point where I cannot open any more windows. Exiting the X server and restarting clears the problem. It seems evident that I am using up some finite resource that is not being released properly. Once I start getting these error messages, closing existing windows does not help. Restarting the server is the only cure I've found. Does anyone know what causes this? Currently, I'm running X11R4 patchlevel 9, on a sun 4/60 running Sun OS 4.0.3c, but I've had this problem for all versions of X I've run. -- Thomas Narten narten@cs.albany.edu
