We recently installed 2.10.2, and I've been reading through the documentation (including the man pages) trying to figure out how to get postnews to put my author_copy into a directory other than $HOME. $NEWSBOX would probably be a good place for this stuff... I like an uncluttered $HOME, and happen to have a $HOME/News directory particularly for the filing of news-related stuff. Is this a "feature"? A bug? Something nobody ever thought of before? Or something that's available and I'm just too lazy to look any further (I've spent about two hours trying to get it to work, though.)
