[comp.windows.x] Xwindows on PC/AT

milo@ndmath.UUCP (Greg Corson) (05/11/87)

Just out of curiosity...has anybody gotten a version of X.windows running
on an IBM-AT clone or a 386 PC? Using what kind of graphics board and mouse?

Also, what version of Unix?

A few days back I posted a message asking if anyone had X.windows on a
PC/AT or 80386-PC. I forgot to mention one thing...I was looking for
a version of X that ran on an AT running UNIX (ie: Microport, Xenix...etc.)

Thanks to those who sent info on X running under MS-DOS...but I really wanted
info on X running under some form of UNIX on an AT or 80386 PC.

GSS in Oregon (503-641-2200,) the people who OEM GKS to IBM etc., are
developing a commercial quality V.11 X-Windows for XENIX 386 machines.
They say it will be available by the end of calendar '87. One-off
pricing < $1000. Does not run on 286 m/cs nor drive high-end 8514
monitor. Disclaimer: Teknowledge has no connection with GSS and this

Hey everyone! Does anyone know if Xwindows can be run on a PC?
If it does, I am wondering about size and speed. If it does exist,
who could I contact?

Thanks,
