By "perceived speed" I mean how it looks to the user. In particular, what sort of X-Terminal does it take to look impressively fast; say under one-half second to pop up a complicated menu. The client I'm thinking of uses Motif; a "complicated menu" might consist of around 20 label widgets, 20 text widgets (used as one-line text entry areas), and a few button widgets. I'm interested in any experience anyone has had in running such applications on specific X-Terminals. I'm particularly interested in what sort of X-Terminal architecture it takes to provide a real fast look-and-feel. What CPU does the X-Terminal use (and what clock rate), what graphics chip (if any), and how much RAM? Also, how critical are server details? (Are there cases where two different X-Terminals use the same hardware but perform a lot differently due to different server software?) Thanks in advance for any info. ---Greg
