[comp.windows.x] XView colormap problems

chuckles@SNE42E.ORL.MMC.COM (06/02/90)

 configuration:
  sun 4/60 and 4/330
  sunos 4.0.3
  X11R4 thru patch 11
  XView 2.0

  using olwm, sun c compiler

 situation:

 create frame with canvas:
set canvas colormap to dynamic and load colormap.

 action:
with created frame in center of screen:

 1. move mouse slowly from north to south into canvas from desktop
colormap will change to correct map.

 2. move mouse slowly from west to east into canvas from desktop
colormap will change to correct map.

 3. move mouse slowly from east to west into canvas from desktop
colormap will change to correct map when pointer is just inside
the frame. the colormap will change back to the default map
when the pointer moves further into the canvas.

  4. move mouse slowly from south to north into canvas from desktop
      same action as 3.

 5. move mouse rapidly north to south or west to east into canvas
from desktop. will see the correct colormap load as pointer
passes inside of frame then will change back to default map.

 6. move mouse rapidly south to north or east to west into canvas
     from desktop. same as 5.

colormap always returns to the default when pointer returns to
  desktop

with created frame in upper left corner of screen

east to west and south to north respond the same as
1 and 2 when canvas is centered..

Have I explained what is happening well enough.
Does someone know what is going on.

I am in process of trying to construct a simple test
cast and will post it if there is no explaination of
  the above behavior.
