[net.news] satellite costs -- one thing I'd like to set straight again

lauren@vortex.UUCP (Lauren Weinstein) (12/18/84)

I'm going to say this one more time. And I hope it's the last time
I have to. None of the costs I've talked about are MY charges.
They are my estimates of charges that other people and companies
would be making for equipment and services in a production
environment. I don't intend to be selling satellite time or
decoders or buffering boards. I have attempted to stay as far
removed from the non-technical aspects of this project as I can.

If the project becomes a going concern I would probably try to
get some compensation for my future ongoing time at that point
(I am a consultant and have to eat somehow) but at this point
everything is TOTALLY volunteer and I have no way to expect ANY
compensation for the time I'm spending. I rather hope
that someday I'll get some new consulting relating to this project,
but none is obvious at this point. I am not wealthy and there are
limits to how much time I can put into a project for free indefinitely.
I'm doing the very best I can. OK? I'm not asking for people
to send me money. What I *am* asking is that the network try to
understand the situation. It would be easier for me if I worked
for some big firm that paid me a nice hefty salary regardless of what I did
on the outside--but I don't. The work I do on this project eats up
time that I could be spending on projects that bring me income.
I am very happy to do it. But please try to remember that we're
all only human.
