Normally when you hit the print button when using Xfig, it pipes its output to f2ps, which then does a so so job of converting your picture to a postscript printout, which is then printed on your postscript printer. I have modified the printing section of XFig to go through the fig2dev program, part of the Transfig package. The fonts all come out correctly this way, with the font and typesize that you selected. This is especially good if you are using XFig for drawing figures that you will not be incorporating into TeX or LaTeX. You must have the Transfig software installed on your system for this to work. The patches work with and without the TFX option compiled into XFig. The patches to modify your copy of XFig to do this are on expo.lcs.mit.edu in contrib/xfig.diffs.for.fig2dev. Apply with patch in a copy of your source directory and if you like it. This is an non- "author-sanctioned" patch to XFig. Use of it could cause serious earthquakes, fire, volcanic eruptions, and loss of lunch. I will not be responsible for jammed printer pages, toner explosions, or lost bytes. I will however, take suggestions and comments about the modification, including hate mail.
