[comp.windows.x] status of the Input Device Extension

I haven't heard anything about the status of
the "input extension" in a long while. What's going
on? Is the review period completed? Could someone
post a summary of the status to the X newsgroup (or
at least send me some mail)?

The Public Review period closed on April 16 without any substantive
comments from the public, although there were further comments received
from X Consortium members. We are now in the phase of waiting for
"proof of concept", which means having several vendors actually using
the extension and having applications written to utilize most of the
functionality. It's happening, but it takes some time.

    Can we expect a version
of the X11R4 code to become standard in the next release?

I hope so, but I can't give you any guarantees at this point about exactly
when the extension will be promoted from a draft standard to a standard.

or is the whole idea going to be dropped?

There is no intention to drop the extension.
