Not wishing to be one to complain and not offer alternatives I offer the following suggestion : The FCC has recently announced that FM stations are free to use the "SCA" band for anything they want. Why not sell the local radio station a $10K news reception center which consists of a whiz bang sattelite decoder box (.5 to 1.5K) and a computer with say 10Meg of hard disk. The computers only purpose would be to collect news, handle errors, and que up the mail. Then, after 6PM, they could switch off the Muzak and switch over to a 1200 baud news broadcast, The broadcast could be organized to minimize repetitive messages. At 6 PM we send out news from four days ago, at 8 Pm we send out news from three days ago, at 10 pm we send out two days ago, 12Pm is yesterdays news and 1 AM is todays news. All sorted chronologically with duplicates removed. We then need only recieve at times when we missed news (say yesterdays) and most of the time recieve it at 1AM during minimal system usage. We can also run a less intelligent news reciever since we are guarunteed no duplicates, and that speeds up the transfer. Best of all a SCA decoder can be made CHEAP, we can rent them for $20 from the FM station install a $50 FM antenna and every one wins!
