Got a demo unit of the NCD X terminal in today, and noticed two things: 1) Couldn't read the boot tape (QIC24 format) on my HP cartridge drive. Not a big problem, as I was able to get going using the PROM server in the NCD. Does anyone else have one of these on an HP system? Did you have to get a 'special' boot tape? The tape I was given was for Suns (what most people seem to have here). 2) The monitor seemed 'grayish', as in not very good color saturation and a distinct lack of contrast. Entirely acceptable for our application, I suspect, but clearly not as nice as the HP (Sony) 98785A displays. Is this a common complaint, or is this likely a sample defect? Other than that, the speed, even with the server that was in prom was IMPRESSIVE. Easily blows away the HP 700/X that we have sitting next to it. part of the problem may be that the NCD has 4meg of memory, the 700/X only 2 meg, but then the 700/X only has 4 planes as well. Does anyone know any way to get the memory usage statistics from the setup display? I can get all sorts of network info, but it doesn't seem to tell me how much server memory is leftover. The ergonomics are quite good as well, although the HP's keyboard and mouse 'feel' better to the fingers. But that may just be because it's what we're used to. Clearly a win. -jcp- -- Joseph C.
