[net.news.group] HELP! New news group about handicapped

wtm@bunker.UUCP (William T. McGarry) (08/28/85)

I've recieved quite a bit of mail about my proposal for a new
news group for/about handicapped/disable people. I am on
vacation right now so I will summarize the results that I have
received so far next week right after labor day.

Almost all of the mail has been in favor of the new group with
a few different opinions on exactly how it should be started (more in
my summary next week).

Despite all of the mail, there has been very little on the net itself,
so I am asking everyone who has sent me mail or who has an opinion
on the subject, please post an article on the net stating your
opinion. Many different people posting articles will have much
more weight than me summarizing the mail that I received.

Thank you all in advance.

I just don't see the need for it. In an article a couple of weeks
back somebody (I don't remember who) said we needed net.handicap because
articles by/for/about handicapped people were flooding net.med.

	A a regular net.med reader, I don't understand how you reached that
conclusion. I can't remember the last such an article I saw. I'm not
interested so I don't read them. If the volume hasn't been enough for me
to even notice, I don't think you could call it a flood.

Rather then starting a new group, why not just go ahead and talk
about it in net.med. When the volume of articles I have to skip becomes
high enough that I notice (let alone be seriously bothered) I'll let you
know. I quite agree with "--Lauren--"; the net needs a higher S/N, not
more newsgroups.

Bill asked for public plugs for net.handicapped (or some such).
This is one.
