Despite my best attempts, a couple of typos occured in my message about incorrect sys files. Both were mistakes on my part-- one was fixed but not in the copy of the message that I distributed, the other was because I simply misread my notes, missed it during proofreading, and shipped it out because it looked right. My thanks to the people who brought both of these problems to my attention. Problem number one: as described, you'll ship to.all to a site instead of to.THEM using the standard sys file. The document looked like this: > The biggest problem I've seen is missing distributions. Please change the THEM line to read: THEM:net,fa,mod,usa,na,to.THEM:: problem number two: as described, the fix for shipping a limited number of topics to another site won't work correctly on a lot of sites. The original lines looke like: >your sys file with match the "Newsgroups:" line but it will NOT match >the line for the "Distribution:". Because of this, large numbers of >articles are not being sent when (or where) they should be. The correct >way of handling this in the sys file is: > > ME:net,fa,mod,usa,na,to:: > THEM:net,net.unix-wizards:: The correct THEM lines should be: THEM:net,!net.all,net.unix-wizards:: That line should work the same on all systems. On most systems (mine is currently an exception, but I'm not sure why yet) it seems that net takes precedence over net.unix-wizards, so the original line will simply send everything in net.all. The '!net.all' turns this off and will be overridden by net.unix-wizards, and the net satisfies the distribution line.
