[comp.windows.x] Suntools and X on cgtwo0

razdan@chanakya.oakhill.uucp (Anshuman Razdan) (06/14/90)

This is regarding running X windows and Sunview together. I do not
remember but some body posted a "kludge" to run X and Sun at the same time
without having two physical cards. I have been succesfully running this on various
Sun Systems and I am satisfied with it. However, I seem to be running into problem
with Sun 3/260 with cgtwo0 device. When I run just X11 either from the Console or
from Suntools, X11 seems to be fine and all the colors show up. But if I start
suntools in /dev/fb and start X in cgtwo0, X starts but all the colors are gone. In effect
it becomes a monochrome server. I can still move from one environment to another using
adjacent screens and the Suntools is still in color. It is the X server that has problem
eith colors. Suppose I have a xterm with -fg blue and -bg yellow then it shows up with white
background and black foreground. Sometimes when I try to refresh this window, there are
flashes of blue and yellow but they disappear. Even "xcolors" comes up with only black and
white boxes.

I am running MIT X11R4 with 1-11 patches applied and this problem only seems to occur on cgtwo
devices.

I would appreciate if somebody could suggest any pointers for solution to the problem.

Speaking of SunView and X running on a single frame buffer machine....
Has anybody had any luck with the old adjacentscreens trick under SunOS
4.1? I used to be able to bring up SunView and X together and switch
between them using adjacentscreens when I was running 4.0.3, but now
under 4.1 the server complains that /dev/bwtwo0 is busy. I've tried
recompiling the server, but didn't fare any better. Am I screwing up
or did sun "fix" adjacentscreens in 4.1? I'm using X11R4 with all 11
patches, in case anybody's interested.
